CHARITY EVENT 2013
The date is set for the 'Saluting for Charity' event. Next year, yoga
teachers and students along the Algarve will unite, making this the

What we do:
Attempt 108 yoga sun salutations or participate in a guided meditation
for the duration. Our aim is to gather together a group of 108 participants
When?
The event will take place on Sunday 26 May at 9:30am
Where?
To be confirmed in the new year.
Why 108?
Sun and Earth: The diameter of the sun is 108 times the diameter of
the Earth.
Sanskrit alphabet: There are 54 letters in the Sanskrit alphabet. Each
has masculine and feminine, shiva and shakti. 54 times 2 is 108.
Chinese: The Chinese Buddhists and Taoists use a 108 bead mala
Planets and Houses: In astrology, there are 12 houses and 9 planets.
12 times 9 equals 108.
Heart Chakra: The chakras are the intersections of energy lines, and
there are said to be a total of 108 energy lines converging to form
the heart chakra.
Gopis of Krishna: In the Krishna tradition, there were said to be 108
gopis or maid servants of Krishna.
Dance: There are 108 forms of dance in the Indian traditions.
Stages of the soul: Said that Atman, the human soul or center goes through
108 stages on the journey.
Theses are only just a few example for the use of the number 108, the
list goes on!
What you need to do to enter:
To start, you will need a sponsor sheet
A minimum of 50 euros sponsorship. We encourage you to raise as much
money as possible, and to donate a little yourself. This year, there
will be a large box at the entrance for donations of goods such as grains,
tinned food, animal food, clothes etc…
Some yoga experience and knowledge of the salutation
sequence is recommended (all teachers will be going through the sequence
in class leading up to the event)
What you need to bring/wear:
Your own yoga mat (if you have one). If you require a mat, please notify
the teacher
Water/towel/comfortable clothing/suncream/glasses
CHARITY EVENT 2012
More than 8000 euros was raised by the Lulushanti Yoga group at Breeze restaurant in Vale De lobo on Sunday the 27th of May. In total, 56 participants, 46 adults and 10 children joined together to salute for charity. "The stillness and beauty of the event was truly special. Thank you to all who came along to share the day with us." Charities to benefit from the event are little miracles which supports children with special needs, CASA which supports under privileged families, the elderly and the homeless, Canil De Sao Francisco de Assis and Refugio do Burros (the donkey sanctuary) which rescue abandoned animals and help find good homes for them. Next year, the event will expand globally. Centres around the world will be joining in on the same day to raise money for local charities.

"More than 2300 euros was raised for local and international charities
after participants in a yoga charity vent completed 108 sun salutations.
Yoga practitioners joined lulu of Lulushanti Yoga in the event on May
15 at the Dunas Douradas beach club. "I couldn’t be more
proud of those who donated and participated in such a challenging event
and I would like to thank everyone involved who made it all possible"
said Lulu. The money raised will now be split between the Algarve children's
charity ACCA, the Pirilampos orphanage in Albufeira and the SIS project
which donates to charities around the world and is currently helping
families affected by the natural disaster in japan in march."
